Rainbow - Comprehensive Paediatric Eye Care Programme - aims to provide preventive and curative eye care to school children.
“Prevention is better than cure”.
Eye defects in children if not detected early and treated appropriately would lead to irreversible damage and blindness (Amblyopia).
The entire programme is conducted in a phased manner involving the Teacher Volunteers initially, followed by the Optometrists at the fully equipped Rainbow Bus in their School Premises and then by the Eye Surgeons at Sankara Eye Hospital.
Rotary Clubs and Rotary International are providing a fully equipped Bus with necessary ophthalmic equipment to screen children at a cost of USD 125,000.
Sankara Eye Hospital Coimbatore is implementing the Project by training the Teacher, scheduling the visits to the schools, deputing Optometrists, Paramedical Staff and Drivers, providing spectacles and surgeries wherever required, all free of cost. The contribution from Sankara Eye Hospital for this Project would be around USD 125,000.
Community participation: It is a participatory approach between Rotary, the Teacher Volunteers, children, parents, grass-root organizations, local Governing Bodies, Health Workers, Service Organizations and Doctors.
Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries will include 600,000 school children in the District of Coimbatore, covering Rural and Urban Government and Aided Schools.
Sustainability: Project will be continued by Sankara Eye Hospital even after the Rotary funding is completed. Sankara Eye Hospital will maintain the equipment & the Rainbow bus to benefit more and more children in future.
Our Comprehensive Paediatric Eye Care Program is truly a Gift of Vision for children.
Together we are providing a bright future for the future generations.
